It is hard to believe that it was only 6 weeks ago that the WFAA Channel 8 story about our Angel Gown Program went viral. The days have run together since then and what has happened not only in Fort Worth but across the country and the globe has left an impact on how we will serve bereaved families forever. What began as a small program has grown in this short time period to include over 3000 wedding gowns, 700 seamstresses across the country, a newly formed NICU Helping Hands’ Angel Gown Chapter in Kansas City, KS, 65 hospitals registering to participate in our Angel Gown Program, and thousands of stories from all over the world being shared about experiences parents have suffered with the loss of their precious babies. As we look towards the coming weeks and months we will be working towards establishing other chapters across the country and possibly internationally and we will be giving parents a voice as we work with healthcare professionals on best practices for serving bereaved families.
The death of a baby is tragic and how we care for grieving families is paramount in shaping the beginning of their grief journey.
